It wouldn’t have been possible if he hadn’t taken a chance with THE REVENANT which Leo had actually read years prior but for a while, the project couldn’t move forward, he said the reason is because the studios just didn’t know how to best approach the story’s massive scope.
It’s really cool to now be able to say Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio. THE REVENANT is part primal existential survival story, part revenge, part redemption and part father and son story as well, and if any one of those elements wasn’t done right, the whole thing would collapse, luckily in the hands of maestros like Inarritu, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and great actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, it all worked together nicely and there result is this monumental achievement. As I’ve indicated in my review of this film last fall is that director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu pretty much gave us the most immersive, most incredible movie-watching experience ever, it just doesn’t get more distinct and more up close and personal than this. Special thanks to 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for sending me this advance copy of THE REVENANT Blu-Ray. What a truly incredible film! A masterpiece.
